A wedding photo sorter for couples who never finished the folder

The short answer

It is the step between the photographer's folder and the album maker's layouts. The folder arrives with thousands of photos; the album maker needs a few hundred, in order, by a date. Phopho and Toto does the first pass for you, so you start from an album instead of a hard disk.

It is not a gallery for guests, not a tool for photographers, and not a replacement for your album maker. It is for the two of you, after the photos arrive, and its job is the album.

Who it is for

Couples with the photographer's folder sitting on a hard disk, a pen drive or a Google Drive link. Multi-day Indian weddings with thousands of photos are the normal case, not the edge case.

It suits you if the album has been waiting for weeks or months, if the folder is too heavy to open on a phone, or if the family keeps asking when it will be ready. It also suits couples who married years ago and still have the folder: the photos do not go stale.

How it works, room by room

The app is five rooms, in the order you use them. Each one says what happens next, and you can close the page and come back at any point.

1. Photos: bring the whole folder. Paste the Google Drive link your photographer sent, choose the folder from a pen drive or your laptop, or pick the photos on your phone. Every function comes in at once.
2. Sorting: we sort every photo by function and by face, set aside the blurry ones and keep the best of each group of similar photos. Usually 35 to 70 minutes once your photos are in. The First Look shows what we found.
3. Who's in it: tell us who is who. Confirm the two of you, name your family and friends, check the functions, then choose how big an album: Compact (150), Classic (250) or Grand (400), or an exact number, and how many from each function.
4. Choosing: look through the album we made. Keep, love, swap or set aside any photo, and undo anything. Choose together on your own phones, and send family one link to heart the photos they love.
5. Album: send it to your album maker, straight into a Google Drive folder, or download every photo at full size, numbered in album order.

What we do, and what stays yours

We do the work that takes weeks by hand: finding every photo of the two of you, recognising your family across functions, putting each photo in its function in the order of the day, and choosing the best of ten similar photos of the same pose.

What goes in the album stays yours. You confirm the two of you before the album is made, put a face right with one tap, and decide the size and the share of each function. Every photo you set aside stays in your folder; you are only deciding what goes in this book.

Anything we set aside, you can see and put back. When we ask a question, it is about someone who changes the album, in your words: is this Nani, is this the same person.

A worked example: 6,000 photos, four functions

Say your photographer sent 6,000 photos from a haldi, a sangeet, the pheras and a reception, and you choose Classic, 250 photos. That is about 1 in 24 of the folder.

Shared by our rule of thumb, with the pheras taking the biggest part, the album has Haldi 45, Sangeet 57, Pheras 91 and Reception 57. In Who's in it you can move any of those numbers, and the album follows.

Built for Indian weddings

Haldi, mehendi, sangeet, pheras, reception and every guest in between make folders that wait for months. One wedding can bring up to 12,000 photos, and the first album keeps the people and the rituals that matter, not only the sharpest frames.

Functions get their own names, so a tilak, a cocktail or "Reception at Jaipur" is a chapter like any other. Family gets its own share of the album, so Mummy, Papa, Nani and Bua are in it even when the stage line had two hundred guests.

What it is not

• Not a photo-sharing app: guests do not get galleries from us. Our comparison of sharing apps and album sorting explains the difference.
• Not a culling tool for photographers: their work comes before the folder reaches you.
• Not your album maker: most couples send the photos to the album maker, who designs and prints the book. If you would rather lay it out yourselves, Set up your album lays out every spread and gives you a file for printing.
• Not a backup: keep your own copy of the photographer's folder.

Privacy in one paragraph

Your photos and the faces in them are used only to make your album, never for ads and never to train software. They are stored and sorted in Mumbai, and deleted 90 days after your album is finished, or within 30 days of your asking. The Privacy Notice has the detail.

Free for our first 50 couples. Sorting and your album, both free. From couple 51, a wedding costs ₹999 to ₹2,999, by how many photos your photographer sent. ₹99 to start, counted in the total. The rest comes in Choosing, after 10 free changes. Changed your mind? Message us within 14 days of seeing your sorted photos and your ₹99 comes back. UPI, cards or netbanking.

Printing is between you and your album maker.
